    The Vatican Museums are housed in the Papal Palace, built during the Renaissance.
    Besides that, there is the famous Sistine Chapel and Raphael’s Rooms, the collections are among the most important in the world, with paintings, sculptures, frescoes, mosaics, objects that come to us from ancient Egypt up the modern era.

    Sistine Chapel

    The main chapel of the Vatican palace is covered with frescoes of the best artists of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

    The 12 paintings of the side walls of the Sistine Chapel were various authors as Perugiani, Botticelli and Ghirlandaio, they illustrate episodes from the life of Christ and Moses.Michelangelo created the monumental fresco of the last judgment on the first side of the altar and scenes from the Old Testament on the ceiling.

    Raphael Rooms

    Raphael’s Rooms were among the apartments of Pope Julius II and date back to the early sixteenth century.He entrusted the decoration of the four parts to Raphael, to represent moral and philosophical themes.

    Opening table

    Usually open daily from 9 am to 18 pm. Closing entries at 16.
    Closed Sundays except the last Sunday of the month where the museums are free or if it coincides with Easter, nor the 29th June, 25th and 26th December. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m.. Entries until 12:30 p.m.
    Additional closures in 2016: 1st and 6th January; 11th February  ; 22th February ; 19th and 28th March; 29th June ; 15th August  ; 1st November ; 8th and 26th December.
